Mary Shelley's classic tale comes to life!

We’re celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein with activities that teach us all about creativity with electricity, robots, making “monsters”, and what it means to be responsible innovators! You’ll find out more about the Victorian-era scientific thoughts that inspired the story and get a chance to join in on a modern-day retelling of Frankenstein!

Make an automaton! An automaton is a moving, mechanical device that imitates the movements of people or animals. Using simple materials, participants will make their own automaton and learn how mechanical systems work.
Make a monster mask! Will your monster be funny? Scary? Cute? It’s up to you! Dr. Frankenstein made a creature who scared everyone! Participants will think about what makes a creature or animal scary.
Learn how batteries convert chemical energy into electrical energy! How were the first batteries made? Participants will also think about how inventors should think ahead so they create new technology responsibly.
Participants will create a battery using two kinds of metal and their own bodies! Watch as electricity flows through your hands and the metal plates. How did Dr. Frankenstein use electricity to bring his creature to life?
Like to create sculptures out of dough? Have you ever used dough to conduct electricity?! Using batteries and wires, participants will use dough to create a creature and learn how to make an electrical circuit.
Create a unique Frankentoy! Participants will exercise creativity as they design their own creature using different parts. Making our own creature isn’t just fun, it also helps us think about taking responsibility for whatever we make.
Make a scribble bot that dances and draws across your tabletop! Just like Frankenstein’s creature, participants will build their bot and then “bring it to life.” It’s fun with motors, electricity, and markers!
The Frankenstein Laboratory for Innovation and Fantastical Exploration (L.I.F.E.) seeks the next generation of thinkers and makers to investigate how science and technology shape the world around us. As part of the Frankenstein200 project, you get to become an intern in Dr. Frankenstein’s lab!

Even if you can’t join in on the fun here at ASC on January 20th, you can be a part of the celebration!

Frankenstein200 puts players in the middle of the action in a story where Mary Shelley’s classic tale collides with modern science. Perform experiments, explore hidden areas of research, and assist a pair of young scientists as they unravel a mystery in a cutting-edge digital experience.

Included with general admission.
