Curious to learn how the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is exploring the "final frontier" today? Well, then this talk is for YOU!

Step into Jack Wood Hall and be transported into the science of TODAY as NASA's Joseph Pelfrey provides insights into the current state of space exploration. Following his talk, you'll have the opportunity to ask Joseph questions. 

This FREE talk will be held in Jack Wood Hall to the left of the lobby on Adventure Science Center's first floor. Entry into the science center's exhibits will require the purchase of general admission tickets or membership.

About the Speaker:

Joseph Pelfrey is deputy manager of the Human Exploration Development and Operations Office at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Pelfrey assists in the management and implementation of Marshall's work portfolio in the areas of Human Exploration and Transportation projects and tasks; Payload and Mission Operations and Integration; and International Space Station Payload, Facility and Vehicle project development and integration.

In 2016, Pelfrey was appointed to the Senior Executive Service, the personnel system covering top managerial positions in federal agencies, with his selection as associate director for operations in Marshall's Engineering Directorate.

From 2012-2016, he was deputy manager and then manager of the Exploration and Space Transportation Development Office in the Flight Programs and Partnerships Office. In 2013, Pelfrey completed a temporary assignment at NASA Headquarters supporting the Office of Chief Financial Officer. Pelfrey joined Marshall's Engineering Directorate in 2008 as design integration lead for the Ares I Upper Stage. In 2011, he was named engineering task manager for the SLS Spacecraft/Payload Integration and Evolution Office and, subsequently, manager of the Marshall Commercial Orbital Transportation Services Project.

Pelfrey began his career as a NASA contractor supporting development of space station payload hardware. He joined Marshall in 2004 as an aerospace engineer in the Science and Mission Systems Office.

A native of Cheraw, South Carolina, Pelfrey earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from Auburn University in Alabama, where he currently serves as a member of the Aerospace Engineering Advisory Council. He is also a graduate of NASA's Mid-Level Leader Program, the Federal Executive Institute and NASA's Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program. He and his wife, Nicole, live in Huntsville and have one daughter.
