About the Program
The Yellow Bus Scholarship Program provides transportation grants to assist economically disadvantaged schools in Middle Tennessee public schools to meet a growing need to help fund educational field trips.
Creative learning outside the classroom at informal science education institutions is critical to a child's academic development. These visits help develop creativity and innovation, which are among the most essential skills for students today. Field trips also help teachers enliven the curriculum and engage students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning.
The program provides one grant (up to $150) per school per school year for transportation to and from the Adventure Science Center (ASC) for a field trip that occurs between August 1 and Feb. 21.
Applications are reviewed on a “first-received, first-funded” basis until all available funds have been awarded. Funding for the year is limited, so apply early! Funding is for buses only and cannot be used for Science Center admission, programs or lunches. Upon notice of funding approval, schools are responsible for bus transportation arrangements and field trip reservations.
Only K-12 schools in Middle Tennessee public school systems where at least 51 percent of the student enrollment qualify for free or reduced-price lunches through the National School Lunch Program may participate.
Grants must be used for an Adventure Science Center field trip that occurs between August 1 and Feb 21.
