Stratford STEM Magnet High School’s FIRST Robotics Team demo
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Join us as Team Sparta Bot (Stratford STEM Magnet High School’s Engineering Team) demonstrates its award-winning Frisbee-throwing robot at Adventure Science Center. Included with General Admission.
The team recently competed in the FIRST Robotics Smoky Mountain Regional and won the Rookie Award. Ten students—two juniors and eight freshmen—designed and built a Frisbee-throwing robot capable of a 15-second autonomous period followed by driver control that functioned beautifully.
The FIRST Robotics Competition featured a game called “Ultimate Ascent,” in which two competing alliances used Frisbee-throwing robots to score as many discs into goals as possible during a 2-minute and 15-second match. The higher the goal count, the more points an alliance received. The match began with a 15-second autonomous period in which the robots operate independently of driver input, relying on programming of the robot. Discs scored in this phase were worth double points. After 15 seconds, drivers took over the robots to maximize the alliance score by scoring as many goals as possible.
Its robot utilized speed, defensive barriers, autonomous scoring, and accuracy of launch to finish the competition in 14th place out of 50 teams, earning the Highest Seed Rookie Award. See the robot in action on April 13!
Congratulations to Team Sparta Bot!
