What do Godzilla, inflatable yard decorations and PEZ dispensers have in common? They’ll all be on display at the annual Collectors’ Day on Saturday, March 9, at Adventure Science Center. See for yourself when Middle Tennessee’s most passionate collectors gather to show off these and other prized possessions.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors can survey an extensive display of the impressive and often unexpected collections from throughout the community. Antique lovers, music fanatics and everyone in between are sure to find something to admire. Best of all, the exhibit is included with general admission to the Center. Among the lineup of collections are:
- Hand-painted Japanese animation cels
- Beatles memorabilia
- Porcelain boxes
- Sand from around the world
- Rocks and fossils
- Foreign coins
- Seashells
- Winnie the Pooh
- Antique bottles
- Snowmen
- Butterflies and moths
- Nutcrackers
- Space memorabilia
- Sports-themed cereal boxes
Collections will be located throughout the center, so be sure to visit them all.
Fossil and Mineral Identification
Alan Brown, Director of Middle Tennessee State University Mineral, Gem and Fossil Museum
Visitors are invited to bring rocks and fossils to be identified. Mr. Brown has been a geology instructor at MTSU since 2005, he has been director of the MTSU mineral, gem and fossil museum since 2008. Mr. Brown has a passion for fossils and has participated in dinosaur digs in Montana the last four summers. In summer 2013, Mr. Brown will be teaching a field course on dinosaur paleontology for Dawson Community College in Glendive, Montana. Mr. Brown has recently started the nonprofit Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History in hopes of greatly expanding and improving on the MTSU mineral, gem and fossil museum.
