Engineering Day Saturday, Feb. 23 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Local engineers will be on hand at Adventure Science Center for its annual Engineering Day. During the event, visitors will have opportunities to learn about a variety of engineering specialties and participate in hands-on activities to help them gain a better understanding of the concepts used in the field. Back again this year, local high school students will showcase and test their entries in the 6th Annual Nashville Bridge Building Competition, presented by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Nashville Chapter. More info>> Engineering Day Activities: High school Lego League teams will showcase their projects on a four foot by eight foot obstacle course presented by the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE). Middle Tennessee Robotic Arts Society will share several exciting projects and showcase some of their larger robots. Nashville Amateur Radio Club, Inc. will give visitors an opportunity to see how radio communication is used to provide critical assistance during emergency situations. As part of ASC’s Great Central U.S. Shakeout activities, visitors can learn about earthquake safety during an 11 a.m. Drop, Cover and Hold event and take part in a special presentation on Earthquake Preparedness led by the American Red Cross at noon. Plus, learn how to build a robot, make a flying machine from straws, make geodesic domes, build and test structures on an earthquake shake table, and more! All Engineering Day activities are included with general admission to the Science Center. And cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! WHO: High school students in Middle Tennessee* Each school may send a maximum of five entries · In-school competitions may be held to choose the top five bridges if more students wish to participate · American Society of Civil Engineers will provide the wood kits for five bridges for each participating public school Winner: Bridge with the highest structural efficiency, E. The free guest passes will be available to each competitor upon check-in at Adventure Science Center at the time of the event. Teachers are always free with proof of ID.
