Current Program Offerings (2018-19)

LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS

WASC: SCIENCE RADIO

Students are guided through a number of experiments designed to explore the relationships between wavelength, frequency, amplitude, and velocity as they exist on a string and air columns. (Capacity: 75 | Length: 30 minutes)
Science Standards: 8.PS4.3, PWC.PS4.1, PWC.PS4.2, PWC.PS4.6, PHYS.PS4.4, PHYS.PS4.8

STEM LEARNING LABS

FETAL PIG DISSECTION

Examine the body systems of a fetal pig while identifying major organs and discussing each one’s structure and function. **Lab fee: $9 per student.** Non-refundable lab deposit of $50 and 3-week advanced booking required. (Capacity: 24 | Length: 50 minutes)
Science Standards: BIO2.LS4

ROCKET CHALLENGE

Students form teams to compete in a good old-fashioned rocket experiment. Students will estimate the range of a rocket based on its thrust force and launch angle in order to accomplish challenges. (Capacity: 24 | Length: 50 minutes)
Science Standards: PHYS.PS2.1, PHYS.PS2.4, PHYS.PS2.12, PHYS.PS2.13

INNOVATION EXPLORATION

Students will use a Makey-Makey circuit board to understand conductivity and circuits, and demonstrate principles by creating their own controllers to solve real-world problems in collaborative teams. Activity facilitates learning in the areas of electricity, product prototyping, and writing creative code. (Capacity: 20 | Length: 50 minutes)
Science Standards: STL.5.8.H, STL.5.8.J, STL.5.9.J, STL.5.9.K, STL.5.9.L

SUMINAGASHI FLUID MECHANICS

Students will learn the history and technique of the Japanese traditional method of Suminagashi, which uses surface tension and fluid mechanics to create marbling patterns. Students create their own monoprints from floating ink! (Capacity: 20 | Length: 50 minutes)
Science Standards: PWC.PS2.15
