Floor Presenter / Adventure Guide (Part-Time)

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is a PART-TIME position, responsible for presenting activities in an exciting and enthusiastic manner for science center guests. Effective communication skills, commitment to guest experience, and a passion for learning and sharing the principles of science, technology, engineering and math are essential attributes for this position. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Present a variety of educational floor programming, including but not limited to daily science demonstrations, exhibit-gallery focused activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of science center exhibits and program content, including temporary exhibitions and related public programming.
  • Report technical, maintenance, safety, and security needs on science center floor to the appropriate staff members and departments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma
  • Current college students and those with completed college coursework will be given preference
  • Strong communication skills and comfort with presenting to small and large groups
  • Prior experience working with children and families is preferred
  • Theatre/improv training or experience is a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and teaching while engaging with guests of all ages
  • An approachable, friendly, enthusiastic personality
  • Availability to work weekends required

Volunteer Program Assistant (Part-Time)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Volunteer Program Assistant is a PART-TIME position that will support the Volunteer Manager by assisting with all volunteer program functions. The role will be responsible to assist in coordinating all volunteer, docent, and Youth CR3W activities, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and oversight.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Programs

  • Assist with ASC’s  volunteer program:
    • Assist with maintenance of volunteer database to track and report volunteer contributions
    • Conduct volunteer orientations
    • Assess volunteer needs and match volunteer skills and abilities to projects
  • Assist with ASC’s  docent program:
    • Assist with docent recruitment and quarterly trainings
    • Assist with special temporary exhibition training sessions
    • Maintain a high level of personalized service and communication with docents
    • Assist in management of accurate docent directory
  • Assist with full scope high school engagement program
  • Coordinate with Volunteer Manager to maintain all appropriate forms and waiver documentation for volunteers, docents, and Youth CR3W and all administrative documentation
  • Assist with the content and production of monthly Volunteer and Docent E-newsletter
  • Assist with coordinating volunteer quarterly appreciation events
  • Keep current with trends and best practices in informal science education and the science center field
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by program need and/or management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma required
  • Associates degree preferred
  • Experience as a volunteer or in volunteer coordination or customer service preferred
  • Comfortable with executing presentations to small groups
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadline
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Ability to work most weekends and some evenings and holidays is required
  • Must possess a valid TN driver’s license, the ability to drive to off-site locations, and maintain a satisfactory driving record

Exhibit Operator (Part-Time, Seasonal)

It’s an Adventure!

Ever wonder what it feels like to walk on the moon or to be a WWII fighter pilot? Are you a fun, energetic person with a positive attitude?  Do you enjoy an atmosphere filled with people who are enthusiastic, upbeat and open to learning new things?  If so, we have THE job for you.  As an Exhibit Operator you’ll be on the front lines engaging with guests of all ages and helping to enhance their learning as they experience our many state-of-the-art exhibits.

The Adventure Science Center has a long standing tradition as one of Nashville’s premier family attractions. We have an immediate part-time position open for a person who is confident, enthusiastic, energetic, possess good communication skills and capable of interacting effectively with the public.  As an applicant for this position you bring a flexible willingness to learn, with an excitement and appreciation for expanding the minds of our guests. We are hiring a person with the right attitude more than the resume. We will train you.

As an Exhibit Operator:

You will be assisting guest with one or more of our exhibits during their visit to the science center. You will learn fun, interesting information to convey to the guests in an enthusiastic manner. Be aware of safety requirements and comply as you work each day.

Gift Shop Associate (Part-Time, Seasonal)

Adventure Science Center is expanding our Guest Services team. There are positions available for the weekend schedule at this time. We're looking for professionals who can display a strong work ethic, professionalism and upbeat positive attitude in a fast-paced customer service environment. .

Gift Shop Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide quality retail Customer Service through guest interactions and sales
  • Stay current on product and sales approaches by maintaining product knowledge
  • Keep Gift Shop stocked, organized and merchandised to Retail Managers standards
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory through proper receiving methods, cycle counts, and periodic full inventories
  • Gain and share full retail knowledge of Adventure Science Center products and services in order to service guests
  • Assist guests with finding educational games, kits and other store products to promote learning at home
  • Learn information to convey to guests in a an enthusiastic manner
  • Gift Shop Lead position added responsibilities as assisting manager in several retail functions as well as capability of running gift shop in manager’s absence.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma
  • Cash handling experience preferred
  • Encourage candidates pursuing a college degree at local universities to apply
