Are you a fun, energetic person with a positive attitude?  Do you enjoy an atmosphere filled with people who are enthusiastic, upbeat and open to learning new things?  If so, we have THE job for you.  As an Exhibit Facilitator you’ll be on the front lines engaging with guests of all ages and helping to enhance their learning as they experience our many state-of-the-art exhibits.

The Adventure Science Center has a long standing tradition as one of Nashville’s premier family attractions. We have an immediate part-time position open for a person who is confident, enthusiastic, energetic, possess good communication skills and capable of interacting effectively with the public.  As an applicant for this position you bring a flexible willingness to learn, with an excitement and appreciation for expanding the minds of our guests. We are hiring a person with the right attitude more than the resume. We will train you.

As an Exhibit Facilitator:

You will be assisting guest with one or more of our exhibits during their visit to the science center. You will learn fun, interesting information to convey to the guests in an enthusiastic manner. Be aware of safety requirements and comply as you work each day.

Birthday Parties Coordinator

Position Description – Responsibilities and Requirements:

Adventure Science Center is looking for an upbeat, well-organized person to organize supplies for, and staff children’s birthday parties, including presenting a science-based program to guests. Candidates should be comfortable with making presentations, customer-service oriented, want to work with children and their families and possess computer reservation skills. This is a 14-hour/week position requiring weekend work (Saturdays and Sundays 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) .

Technician (Part-Time)

Position Description

Adventure Science Center provides programs and experiences that deepen the engagement of students, teachers and the general public in science and science-related disciplines. The Science Center supports STEM education in Tennessee by presenting science in an engaging, innovative manner.

Each member of the Adventure Science Center team is expected to:

  1. Contribute to the success of the whole organization.
  2. Contribute to the success of his/her co-workers.
  3. Perform the functions of his/her job.

Job Type: Part-time (working approximately 24-28 hours per week)

Essential Job Functions

With the direction of the Building Manager:

  • Conducts daily inspection of exhibits and facility equipment.
  • Assists with the general maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment related to exhibits, HVAC Systems, and Pneumatic systems.
  • Assists with the set-up and tear-down of events, including but not limited to tables, chairs, AV, laptops, projectors, and decorations.
  • Assists with the installation and strike of temporary exhibits.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Traits

  • Ability to fill out and complete daily checklist
  • Change out a fluorescent light ballast, receptacle or breaker
  • Grease pumps and motors, change belts
  • Solder wire, diagnose basic AC/DC electronics
  • Basic shop knowledge, drills, saws, various hand tools
  • Knowledge of and practice with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs
  • Motivated, flexible and dependable

Qualified candidates will have:

  • 2-4 years previous work experience in one or more of the following fields: maintenance, construction, electrical, or electronics.
  • Post-secondary education of at-least one year.
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Be available to work weekends, holidays and occasional after hours events
  • Understanding of the importance and value of working as part of a larger cross-functional and inter-departmental team in a professional, courteous, and collaborative way
  • Courteous professional manner and ability to interact with science center guests

ScienceQuest Camp Staff

Position Description

We are looking for new camp staff members! These position will be able to work both ScienceQuest Day Camps and our Science Sleepovers! Both of these unique programs provide exciting science enrichment programs in one of Nashville’s most iconic locations. An enthusiastic, committed staff is what makes our camps and sleepovers a success! Days include creative hands-on learning, outdoor play, science presentations, and meal times. Nights include exciting science demonstrations, shutting down our exhibits, and facilitating a safe and educational night at the museum.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervise and interact with campers or large groups of families in a fast paced environment
  • Maintain a high energy level to encourage learning and excitement during activities
  • Sustain long, busy days and/or nights on your feet with a positive attitude
  • Identify the unique group dynamic from week to week, helping campers and guests make friends and develop new skills
  • Coordinate with the Camp Manager to develop the best curriculum for each age group
  • Serve as an appropriate role-model for all campers and guests of the center, while representing the Adventure Science Center

Requirements

Development Coordinator

Position Description

Under direction of the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Development Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the successful implementation of fundraising activities within the Development Department of Adventure Science Center.  Understanding of a moves management strategy and mastery of a donor database are critical skills for this position.  In addition, the Development Coordinator is responsible for correspondence, scheduling, meeting preparation, and administrative tasks for the department.

Essential Job Functions

DEVELOPMENT & EVENTS​​​​

  • Prepare and submit funding proposals and/or letters of inquiry, as directed by CDO and Development Manager
  • Research potential funders/donors and produce Prospect Profiles as directed by CDO
  • Provide campaign support for CDO, CEO, and volunteers as directed
  • Maintain and update major gift prospect/donor records, ensuring profiles are current and accurate
  • Maintain contact reports and record of research findings in donor database
  • In coordination with Membership & Donor Database Coordinator, ensure gift entry and acknowledgement is completed, produce donor information reports, weekly updates of donor information in donor categories and statistical information as needed (LYBUNT, SYBUNT, etc.)
  • Assist CDO with the annual signature event, providing support as directed
  • Assist Development Manager as needed with donor appeals
  • In coordination with Events Coordinator, plan and execute stewardship events and donor receptions
  • Manage the overall integrity of donor data with sensitivity to confidentiality

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Maintain the development calendar to ensure deadlines are met for funding submissions and appeals
  • Maintain the organizational grant calendar to ensure deadlines are met for submissions
  • Be the point person for inquiries by major gift donors and prospects
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with board members and donors
  • Produce analytical reports in a timely manner, (e.g. monthly individual, corporation, and organizational giving)
  • Produce pledge reminders and invoices in a timely manner
  • Track and reconcile revenue and expenses to budget
  • Organize and maintain file system, both physical and electronic

Qualifications

  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in related field is required
  • Experience:  Requires minimum of 2-3 years in fundraising, business, marketing, or project management
  • Donor database software knowledge is required.  Raiser’s Edge or Altru knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing and proofreading skills
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to work events at various hours, including evenings and weekends is required

Environmental Conditions & Physical Demands

  • There is manual labor during the set-up and break-down of fundraising events.
  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms; use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire regulations.
