Program/Exhibit Facilitator

Get ready to Tinker!

Adventure Science Center aspires to be a nationally renowned destination science center. ASC provides powerful exhibitions and inspiring education programs with exceptional guest experiences that deepen the engagement of all ages in science and science-related disciplines. ASC supports STEM education and workforce development through industry collaboration and by presenting science in an engaging, innovative manner.

This position is responsible for facilitating guest experiences in a temporary exhibit gallery, the Tinkering Garage during the time period of November 20, 2017, through January 16, 2018. Tinkering Garage is open to the public seven (7) days per week so weekend work is required. Guests include the general public, school groups and campers. Ideal candidates are creative, tactful, flexible, comfortable around tools, enjoy working with people, and are able to enthusiastically explain tasks and challenges to guests.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide hands-on assistance to guests in individual or group settings regarding the invention or creation of designs and projects and the safe use of tools.
  • Daily preparation of Tinkering Garage, maintaining supplies/materials, space maintenance
  • Work with members of education team on daily schedule of projects and activities
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by program need and/or management

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Traits:

  • Knowledge about the design and build process and knowledge of tools…love of tinkering
  • Ability to work with large groups of active youth and their parents/teachers amidst the “controlled chaos” of Science Center environment
  • Desire to work with and inspire children and adult guests from diverse backgrounds
  • Understanding of the importance and value of working as part of a larger cross-functional and intra-departmental team in a professional, courteous, and collaborative manner
  • Enthusiasm for science and science education
  • Courteous professional manner
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and flexibility should difficult situations arise

Exhibit Facilitator (Part-Time)

It’s an Adventure!

Ever wonder what it feels like to walk on the moon or to be a WWII fighter pilot? Are you a fun, energetic person with a positive attitude?  Do you enjoy an atmosphere filled with people who are enthusiastic, upbeat and open to learning new things?  If so, we have THE job for you.  As an Exhibit Facilitator you’ll be on the front lines engaging with guests of all ages and helping to enhance their learning as they experience our many state-of-the-art exhibits.

The Adventure Science Center has a long standing tradition as one of Nashville’s premier family attractions. We have an immediate part-time position open for a person who is confident, enthusiastic, energetic, possess good communication skills and capable of interacting effectively with the public.  As an applicant for this position you bring a flexible willingness to learn, with an excitement and appreciation for expanding the minds of our guests. We are hiring a person with the right attitude more than the resume. We will train you.

As an Exhibit Facilitator:

You will be assisting guest with one or more of our exhibits during their visit to the science center. You will learn fun, interesting information to convey to the guests in an enthusiastic manner. Be aware of safety requirements and comply as you work each day.

Birthday Parties Coordinator (Part-Time)

Position Description – Responsibilities and Requirements:

Adventure Science Center is looking for an upbeat, well-organized person to organize supplies for, and staff children’s birthday parties, including presenting a science-based program to guests. Candidates should be comfortable with making presentations, customer-service oriented, want to work with children and their families and possess computer reservation skills. This is a 14-hour/week position requiring weekend work (Saturdays and Sundays 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) .

Gift Shop Associate (Part-Time)

Adventure Science Center is expanding our Guest Services team. There are positions available for weekday and weekend schedule at this time. We're looking for professionals who can display a strong work ethic, professionalism and upbeat positive attitude in a fast-paced customer service environment.

Gift Shop Responsibilites and Duties:

  • Provide quality retail Customer Service through guest interactions and sales
  • Stay current on product and sales approaches by maintaining product knowledge
  • Keep Gift Shop stocked, organized and merchandised to Retail Managers standards
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory through proper receiving methods, cycle counts, and periodic full inventories
  • Gain and share full retail knowledge of Adventure Science Center products and services in order to service guests
  • Assist guests with finding educational games, kits and other store products to promote learning at home
  • Learn information to convey to guests in a an enthusiastic manner
  • Gift Shop Lead position added responsiblites as assisting manager in several retail functions as well as capability of running gift shop in managers absence.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma
  • Cash handling experience preferred
  • Encourage candidates pursuing a college degree at local universities to apply
