This position is responsible to assist guests with one or more of our exhibits. Gift shop associate (regular part-time and part-time-seasonal)

Adventure Science Center is expanding our Guest Services team. There are positions available for the weekend schedule at this time. We're looking for professionals who can display a strong work ethic, professionalism and upbeat positive attitude in a fast-paced customer service environment. .

Gift shop responsibilities and duties:

  • Provide quality retail customer service through guest interactions and sales
  • Stay current on product and sales approaches by maintaining product knowledge
  • Keep gift shop stocked, organized and merchandised to retail managers standards
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory through proper receiving methods, cycle counts, and periodic full inventories

Guest services lead (full-time, hourly)

 Position Overview

As a member of Adventure Science center each team member is expected to deliver consistent, quality service with enthusiasm, positive attitude and respect to all ASC guests. This position is responsible for assisting the Guest Services or Retail managers with the smooth operation of the guest experience in all guest locations; Guest Services desk, lobby, exhibits and gift shop, in addition to conducting duties in the absence of the Guest Services and/or Retail managers. Staff is expected to perform his/her job with a sense of pride in his/her work, while also contributing to the success of his/her co-workers as well as the entire Adventure Science Center Organization.

Program Presenter - Adventure Guide (part time)

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is a PART TIME position.  It is responsible for presenting activities in an exciting and enthusiastic manner for museum guests.  Effective communication skills, commitment to guest experience, and a passion for learning and sharing the principles of science, technology, engineering and math are essential attributes for this position. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Present a variety of educational floor programming, including but not limited to daily science demonstrations, exhibit-gallery focused activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of museum exhibits and program content, including temporary exhibitions and related public programming.
  • Report technical, maintenance, safety, and security needs on museum floor to the appropriate staff members and departments.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School Diploma
  • Current college students and those with completed college coursework will be given preference
  • Strong communication skills and comfort with presenting to small and large groups
  • Prior experience working with children and families is preferred
  • Theatre/improv training or experience is a plus.

Summer day camp staff (seasonal)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Camp at Adventure Science Center provides a wide range of science enrichment programs for youth ages 5-12.  Programs combine science, technology, engineering and math in ways that encourage kids to actively discover and examine concepts for themselves. We inspire a life-long passion for learning and teach kids creative problem-solving skills, teamwork, persistence and follow-through in a fun learning environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Encourage a positive learning environment, fostering passion for science and Adventure Science Center.
  • Supervise and interact with campers, facilitating activities and experiments with a focus on scientific content
  • Identify the needs of campers and guests and work to make each experience a positive one
  • Delegate tasks to in room volunteers while creating a positive experience
  • Proactively engage campers in personal, inspiring interactions

Director of Exhibition and Facilities Operations (full-time)

Position Summary

The Adventure Science Center (ASC) in Nashville, Tennessee, is seeking a dynamic, creative, full-time individual to oversee, guide and manage its exhibitions and facilities operations.   ASC’s purpose is to ‘change lives through extraordinary experiences in science and innovation,’ using a visitor experience focused on open-ended, hands-on exhibits and education programs that foster creativity, curiosity, confidence, and collaborative discovery.  Our vision is to become one of the most renowned science center/museums in the world

As visionary lead for ASC’s exhibition development, the Director of Exhibitions & Facilities.  The director will be responsible for overseeing the creation of engaging exhibitions that inspire curiosity and generate wonder for every visitor in ASC’s growing, diverse audience. The DIRECTOR has the unique opportunity to grow an exhibition and exhibits department that will ultimately be responsible for the total transformation of the ASC experience and 60,000+ square feet of exhibition space, a process that is planned to take place over the next several years.  

The first phase of the role involves developing existing talent in the exhibits, facilities departments to create the basis for a strong interdepartmental exhibit development team that highlights science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). The director will lead and help equip the team to develop, evolve, and evaluate existing and proposed exhibits, with the goals of engaging guests and increasing visitation as well as ensuring accessibility, ease of maintenance, and effectiveness at achieving ASC’s mission. In this phase, the director will assemble and lead the interdepartmental team in exhibition development efforts, as well as direct the work of outside exhibit designers and fabricators. Later phases of the role will involve growing and managing an internal exhibition development team through internal promotion and external hiring as funds become available.

Qualified candidates will be excellent leaders in developing creative environments and bring with them a passion for informal science and learning. Experience managing exhibition development, creative ideation processes, exhibit installation and maintenance staff is essential.

Qualifications

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree required.  In lieu of a degree, 5-7 years with proven track record in exhibition management, preferably in the context of a museum opening or major exhibit renovation.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in successfully managing human and material resources in the supervision and maintenance of museum exhibits.
  • Experience working in a museum environment and working with physical and digital interactive exhibits
  • Understanding of and prior experience with Audio Visual equipment and exhibit-related digital technology; mechanical exhibit and shop experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Altru, and Basecamp.

Job Essentials

  • Generate and maintain a high-level of understanding of existing and forthcoming exhibition   trends and technology, to ensure ASC remains at the forefront of understanding emerging innovations in our region and beyond.  Including, but not exclusive of:
    • Provide strategic direction for the evolution of ASC’s exhibitions, working closely with CEO, VP and all stakeholders to ensure that exhibits support the mission and vision of ASC.
    • Curate exhibitions and develop long-range goals and objectives for each exhibition space with respect to the visitor experience and future development of ASC.
  • Establish the short and long-term exhibition and exhibit goals for the museum and manage a plan of work to achieve these goals, including but not exclusive of:
    • Formulate the museum’s long-range plan for implementing major exhibitions (e.g. Health, Sports and Human Performance) that provide the highest quality experience possible for guests.
    • Assemble a highly skilled team of Exhibit Technicians and Volunteers to ensure excellence within the department and ASC.
  • Supervise the Facilities Manager who is responsible for overseeing all building and grounds related activities which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Promote a culture of safety consciousness that goes beyond minimum requirements and champion the highest practical standards for visitor and staff safety.
    • Oversee major construction projects and acts as representative with construction company and architects.
