Accounting Specialist

Adventure Science Center aspires to become a nationally renowned destination science center.  ASC provides powerful exhibitions and inspiring programs with exceptional guest experiences that deepen the engagement of all ages in science and science-related disciplines. ASC supports STEM education and workforce development through industry collaboration by presenting science in an engaging, innovative manner. 

Position Overview:

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for the performing a variety of accounting related functions, to include, accounting for daily sales, monthly account reconciliations, journal entry processing, and assisting with fixed asset depreciation schedules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Enter and reconcile daily cash deposit batches of ticket and program sale 
  • Prepare client invoices and process monthly invoicing to clients
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation
  • Add fixed assets additions, deletions and retirements  into the asset management software
  • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts for month end close in an accurate and timely manner, researching any discrepancies and recommending appropriate adjustment 
  • Assist in the preparation of ad hoc reports from accounting and ticketing software for management 
  • Other duties as assigned

Customer Service

  • Anticipate the needs and solve issues with a positive, courteous and professional attitude 

Operational Support

  • Attend monthly staff meetings and education team meetings as schedule permits 
  • Perform core operational functions of visitor safety and wayfinding
  • Ability to work various hours occasionally, including evenings and weekends may be necessary for ASC events
  • Assist during emergency and evacuation situations

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAITS 

  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles for nonprofit accounting
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, ability to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy
  • Ability to foster a positive and cooperative work environment between departments
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Project a commitment to customer service and continuous improvement to both internal and external customers
  • Excellent decision making skills and the ability to analyze data and solve problems 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years of accounting experience is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills
  • Positive attitude required
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Exhibit Operator (Part-Time)

It’s an Adventure!

Ever wonder what it feels like to walk on the moon or to be a WWII fighter pilot? Are you a fun, energetic person with a positive attitude?  Do you enjoy an atmosphere filled with people who are enthusiastic, upbeat and open to learning new things?  If so, we have THE job for you.  As an Exhibit Operator you’ll be on the front lines engaging with guests of all ages and helping to enhance their learning as they experience our many state-of-the-art exhibits.

The Adventure Science Center has a long standing tradition as one of Nashville’s premier family attractions. We have an immediate part-time position open for a person who is confident, enthusiastic, energetic, possess good communication skills and capable of interacting effectively with the public.  As an applicant for this position you bring a flexible willingness to learn, with an excitement and appreciation for expanding the minds of our guests. We are hiring a person with the right attitude more than the resume. We will train you.

As an Exhibit Operator:

You will be assisting guest with one or more of our exhibits during their visit to the science center. You will learn fun, interesting information to convey to the guests in an enthusiastic manner. Be aware of safety requirements and comply as you work each day.

Birthday Parties Coordinator (Part-Time)

Position Description – Responsibilities and Requirements:

Adventure Science Center is looking for an upbeat, well-organized person to organize supplies for, and staff children’s birthday parties, including presenting a science-based program to guests. Candidates should be comfortable with making presentations, customer-service oriented, want to work with children and their families and possess computer reservation skills. This is a 14-hour/week position requiring weekend work (Saturdays and Sundays 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) .
