Get active at Adventure Science Center’s Sports Science Day

Explore how science ties into sports on May 6

Nashville, Tenn., May 1, 2017—Footballs soaring through the sky, basketballs bouncing on the ground, pucks gliding across the ice... there’s a scientific explanation behind all sports, and Adventure Science Center is ready to open visitors’ eyes to these hidden secrets.

On Saturday, May 6, the Science Center will host a Sports Science Day that will explore how science ties into sports with invigorating hands-on fun covering Newton’s Laws of Motion, projectiles, and elasticity. Visitors will even be able to see how their sprinting skills rank in an exciting citizen science project.

Special Activities, included with general admission (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.):

FOOTBALL CATAPULTS
Go for three and explore projectiles while trying to catapult an itty bitty football through our homemade field goal.

BOUNCING BALLS
How does the law of elasticity play into sports? Discover which sports balls are the most elastic and what can change their properties.

HIT THE ICE
Hockey is perhaps the best sport to focus on for an exploration of Newton's Laws of Motion with players colliding, skates gliding across the ice and more!

READY? SET? ... GO!
How fast can YOU run? See where you rank against other visitors in this fun citizen science project!

Special Presentations at 11 a.m. & noon:

Foundation Wellness, LLC, owner Miller Chandler and several special guests will discuss the importance of playing multiple sports to develop athleticism and the science behind doing athletic drills using both the dominant and non-dominant sides of the body. After the discussion, the athletes and kids will put sports-science theory into action!

Subject to change.
