Adventure Science Center flashes back to the 1980s for upcoming Way Late Play Date

Beer. Science. Pop Culture. Next adults-only night to feature volcanoes, eclipses and Space Invaders on July 27

Nashville, Tenn., July 18, 2017—What do fanny packs, Run-D.M.C., and the Internet have in common? They all got their start in the 1980s. Adventure Science Center (ASC) is flashing back to explore some of the “totally gnarly” science behind the era for their next adults-only Way Late Play Date on Thursday, July 27.

Tickets to the event are available at and cost $35 for not-yet-members and $25 for members. Tickets include admission to all activities and exhibits, three beverage tickets for beer, wine or soft drinks, a planetarium show and a souvenir cup.

Way Late Play Dates offer a unique opportunity for adults to explore all of the Science Center's exciting hands-on exhibitions without children present. With a local brew or a glass of wine in hand, attendees can also enjoy special themed science activities, planetarium shows, science trivia, activities with community organizations, and scaled up live science demonstrations, all included with the ticket price.

80s Retro Activities:

Get prepared for August's Music City Solar Eclipse by learning about safe viewing techniques and making a pinhole projector with a twist – the pinhole is a heart to make a total eclipse of the heart a reality.
Explore the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens with a classic science fair experiment, then discover more about volcanoes and other natural phenomena in Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters.
Take a look at a real sheep's heart to learn how the organ functions while exploring how the first successful artificial heart transplant in 1982 could work.
In this special, live science demonstration, an ASC Science Educator will showcase some "blinding" experiments that incorporate some favorite 80s nostalgia products, like hair spray and some retro toys compact discs!
ASC is introducing a first-of-its-kind offer in the Sudekum Planetarium... the chance to play “Space Invaders” on the 63-foot dome! For the first hour of the event, the planetarium doors will be open for people to come in and out as they please to have their shot at playing the game. Beginning at 7:45, 8:30 and 9:15, the planetarium will be showing the latest Sudekum Planetarium original production, ECLIPSE: The Sun Revealed, in preparation for August's total solar eclipse.
Other fun during the event includes photo ops and slime-making  with TN Ghostbusters, mini-games with The Escape Game Nashville, and a rockin' 80s virtual reality experience with The Rabbit Hole VR.

For an added cost, attendees can snag some food from Steaming Goat Food Truck, Sisterhood of the Tamale or Boheme's Banana Boat, which will also be bringing the party outside with live music performances from atop the boat! Guests also have to option to screen print their own souvenir t-shirt with Hip Hues.

Must be 21 or older to attend. Valid photo ID required at the door. Tickets are non-refundable. All proceeds support Adventure Science Center’s interactive exhibits and hands-on science experiences.
