Discover science inspired by popular PIXAR® films during the Way Late Play Date on Oct. 5

Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 21 2017— Create, dissect, splash, and blast off into incredible hands-on science activities inspired by popular PIXAR® films at Adventure Science Center’s (ASC) upcoming adults-only Way Late Play Date on Thursday, Oct. 5.

From the first time Sheriff Woody hit the scene to the second journey across the sea with Dory, Marlin and Nemo, PIXAR® films have captivated audiences with awe-inspiring animations, relevant and sometimes hard-hitting stories, and beautiful scores. The Science Center will take guests beyond the stories to explore exciting science inspired by the films’ characters and plots.

Tickets to this 21 and up event are available at

Every few months, the Science Center opens its doors after-hours for adults to enjoy explorations into the science behind a pop culture theme with exciting hands-on activities and demonstrations. Tickets cost $35 for not-yet-members, $25 for ASC members, and include admission to all exhibits and activities, three beverage tickets (local craft beer, plus limited wine and soft drinks), a planetarium show and a souvenir cup.

ACTIVITIES (included with admission):

  • Sid’s Backyard
Tired of playing nice? Visit Sid’s backyard and hack into some toys to create new mutant playthings. Inspired by the Toy Story franchise, this activity will make guests get creative by recycling old toys to make something new.
  • Carl and Ellie’s House
Set a course for Paradise Falls! In this fun engineering challenge, guests can try their hands at constructing a model house light enough for a fleet of colorful balloons to get things moving UP.
  • Flik’s Colony
Celebrate the incredible lives of bugs in honor of A Bug’s Life. Guests will have the chance to see a variety of bugs, learn about their lifecycles, explore their anatomy with a bug dissection, and even sample a tasty bug-based treat.
  • Nemo’s Reef
Fun isn’t hard to find in Nemo’s colorful reef! Explore the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef while getting hands-on with The Aquarium Restaurant’s live touch tank and seeing some actual ocean artifacts in honor of Finding Nemo and Finding Dory.
  • WALL-E’s Planet
A lone WALL-E robot trash compactor continued to roam the planet after the humans evacuated and all other robots stopped functioning, but he’s not alone now. Middle Tennessee Robotic Arts Society (MTRAS) will showcase their model WALL-E along with other amazing robotic creations.
  • Remy’s Kitchen
Join Remy, Alfredo, and their rat friends in this interactive show! See how positive reinforcement and conditioning can make our furry “chefs” into helpful hands in the kitchen.
  • School of Liberal Arts & Monstrosities
Learn a thing or two about illustration from local cartoonist and ASC Educator, John Haney, as he brings crowd-chosen PIXAR® characters to life in live drawing demonstrations at 7, 8 and 9pm.
  • Skies Over Nashville
Under the 63-foot Sudekum Planetarium dome, soar over the Nashville skyline to see the beautiful stars and planets that light up Music City.

Guests will also be able to experience ASC’s new virtual reality installation, enjoy a sampling of tasty snacks with KRAVE – including their newest brand Popwell, a half-popped, non-GMO, gluten-free and fair trade popcorn snack, enter a Costume Contest to win prizes with Hypericon, and more, all included with admission.
