Education Opportunities

Docents are trained by Adventure Science Center science educators to add value to our guests’ experiences by presenting Discovery Cart programs or by facilitating the use of exhibits throughout the Science Center. These programs add information and excitement to our guests’ visit and take their experience to the next level of education and fun. Docents may also assist ASC science educators with programs and presentations during area outreach programs, discovery labs and events. Pre-requisite: 20 hours of service as a general volunteer. Additional Docent training is required.

ScienceQuest Camp Assistant
Camps at Adventure Science Center consist of a wide range of enrichment programs for youth in grades K-9 that combine science, technology, engineering and mathematics in ways that encourage kids to actively discover science for themselves. Camp programs are conducted on weekdays during the summer and school breaks. As a camp assistant, volunteers are responsible for helping camp counselors as well as the camp coordinator, which includes helping set up/clean up camp activities and supervising campers.

Sudekum Planetarium Opportunities

Planetarium Assistant
Adventure Science Center offers a wide variety of fulldome programming in the Sudekum Planetarium. Planetarium Assistants will help with collecting visitor tickets, seating guests, parking strollers, providing basic guidance to the public during the planetarium show, and check for debris/lost items among the seats between shows. Planetarium Assistants will be stationed inside the theatre during shows, and see a variety of shows throughout the day. Note: This positions involved extended time in a low-light, irregularly shaped theatre with curving staircases.

Special Events & Programming Opportunities

Special Events Volunteer
Adventure Science Center hosts a number of special events and programming open to the public including science Saturdays, Way Late Play Date (21+) events, Science of Beer (21+), etc. Special events consist of hands-on science activities and live science presentations and are typically on Saturdays or after-hours during the week. Special event volunteers can help with anything from guest check-in, wayfinding, managing giveaways, facilitating activities, and more!

Guest Services Opportunities

Guest Services Host
Are you a friendly, outgoing and energetic person who enjoys interacting with the public? Guest Services Hosts serve as the face of Adventure Science Center to guests. Volunteers will provide assistance with welcoming guests and answering questions, distributing brochures, helping with lost & found items, assisting with ASC visitor rule enforcement, and more. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance the guest experience while acting as an ASC ambassador.

Phone Operator
Adventure Science Center Phone Operators assist Guest Services with informational questions, answering the telephones and providing general assistant to ASC visitors. These volunteers should enjoy interacting with the public, speaking on the phone, and be knowledgeable about Adventure Science Center and its many exciting programs, events and exhibitions.

Facilities & Exhibits Opportunities

Exhibits Tech Assistant
Adventure Science Center has more than 175 interactive elements throughout the building. Exhibits Tech Assistants will help check each element to see whether or not the exhibit is operational. If exhibits are not operational, they will relay this information on for repair. Exhibits Tech Assistants will also help with maintaining and re-setting exhibits during their shift. This is a great way to interact with ASC exhibits and become familiar with what it takes to run a science center!

Administrative Opportunities

Administration Volunteer
Do you enjoy working on projects behind the scenes? Administration volunteers will work with Adventure Science Center staff in the offices on various small projects. These tasks can include preparing mail-outs, prepping educational program supplies, filing, scanning, data entry, taking phone calls, etc. These shifts are available as needed by administrative staff.
