Volunteers are an important component of the Adventure Science Center team! They are a dedicated group of individuals who serve a vital role in helping us achieve our mission. Volunteers have the opportunity to get involved with Adventure Science Center through a variety of volunteer shifts and assignments. From guest services and planetarium shows to assisting with programs and events, there is a place for everyone!
Please note: Adventure Science Center does not offer court-ordered community service as a volunteer opportunity.
Volunteers work alongside Adventure Science Center staff and educators while assisting with daily operations, programs, and special events. Volunteer involvement is divided into several areas and assignments, which can be found by viewing our volunteer position descriptions»
- Minimum 14 years of age
- Submit a Volunteer Application»
- Complete a Background Check (18+)
- Commit to 6 hours/month for a minimum of 6 months
- Attend a Volunteer Orientation
- Attend training courses for your position

More than just another extracurricular, Youth CR3W is a program that prepares Nashville teens for college and the working world. Students are encouraged to apply as high school freshmen, committing to the program for four years. However, any high school student is welcome to apply for this exciting program!
Pronounced “crew,” the “3” in CR3W represents three E’s: engage, explore, and explain. Learn more»
Youth CR3W applications are accepted from any high school student (rising freshmen through seniors) each fall.
Pre-requisite: 20 hours of service as a general volunteer. Additional Docent training is required.
Docents are a dedicated group of volunteers who work alongside Adventure Science Center educators to provide informal education programs to visitors. Docents help educate by utilizing Discovery Carts, hosting in exhibit halls, and assisting educators with programs and special events. Docents may also participate in offsite educational programming and events throughout Nashville. Docents are trained by Adventure Science Center educators to teach and engage on various topics, programs, and presentations.
- 20 hours of service as an ASC volunteer
- Commit to 8 hours/month for a minimum of one year
- Attend New Docent Orientation & Training
- Attend ongoing Docent training courses
Adventure Science Center loves group volunteers! We can accommodate corporate, civic, and college groups looking for fun and exciting service project opportunities. Group opportunities include:

- Painting, building, and gardening
- Administrative projects

Special Events volunteer opportunities are great for groups or individuals to help out for a one-time event after work hours and on weekends! Special Events are a fun way to meet other volunteers and staff at Adventure Science Center while helping us fulfill our mission! There are several opportunities throughout the year, including Way Late Play Date, Science of Beer, and Whistlestop Weekend!
