HAPPY NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK by Elisabeth McClain, Volunteer Manager

I’d like to take a moment to recognize the unsung heroes here at Adventure Science Center… our incredible team of volunteers!

Although we appreciate their efforts every day, National Volunteer Week provides a nation-wide platform to celebrate those who inspire, create, teach, and encourage others in their communities through volunteerism. It is an especially exciting time here at the Science Center, as we are celebrating a newly revived volunteer program. Over the past 8 months, we have had the pleasure of welcoming new (& old!) volunteers, groups, interns, and Youth CR3W members into the Science Center that have gone on to inspire and engage our visitors on a daily basis.

We want to take a moment to say thank you to ALL of our volunteers. From individuals and groups to our awesome interns and Youth CR3W members, we could not do what we do without you!

It has been such a special and unique experience to work and grow alongside our volunteers, from building a recycled boat using water bottles (you’ll hear about this one later) to shooting toilet paper streamers from the 2nd floor to ring in the NOON Year, they bring something special to our daily experiences can cannot be found elsewhere. As a thank you, I would like to take a trip down memory lane to share a few of my favorite moments we have had with volunteers the past few months:

  • Although the rain poured down, more than 70 brave volunteers come together to make an incredible Nashville Mini Maker Faire happen!
  • We were privileged to welcome 10 brand-new, incredibly awesome Youth CR3W members into our program this year.
  • A shared passion for trains during our All Aboard for Trains! exhibition brought our youngest volunteer (6 years old!) and oldest volunteer together! Witnessing the joy and passion of Alex as he volunteered alongside his mother is something I won’t forget.
  • Our new Scientists on Site program teamed five scientists up with five teenagers to turn their research into hands-on activities to teach to children and guests.

It’s an honor to be able to engage with each of our volunteers as they lend their time and passion to help us fulfill our mission.

Thanks again to all of our wonderful volunteers!
