Celebrate the New Year... before bedtime!

Don’t miss our annual countdown to the NOON Year!

Skip the hassle of staying up until midnight to celebrate New Year’s Eve with your little ones and join us for a day filled with fun. In honor of National Geographic presents: Earth Explorers, we’ll be taking you on a cultural journey through time honored traditions from across the globe leading up to our epic streamer celebration as we count down to the clock striking noon!

First time attending? Be sure to check out the "Special Notes" section below for things to keep in mind when joining our celebration!

Investigate the science of sound as you learn about the Japanese tradition of ringing 108 bells to bring in the New Year.
  • FIRE FESTIVAL (Scotland)
Craft and tinker with your own flameless torch in honor of the Scottish new years’ tradition of lighting up the night with a “river of fire” in the streets.
  • POLAR PLUNGE (Canada)
Canada’s tradition of diving into a freezing cold lake is a chilly experience for the humans, but here you’ll learn about animals that live in arctic climates with adaptations to help them bear (pun intended) the polar plunge all year long.
As 2018 comes to a close, we all wonder what 2019 has in store. Celebrate the Peruvian tradition of “predicting” your fortune for the new year using the almighty, wise potato!
  • LUCKY GRAPES (Spain)
In Spain, the New Year’s tradition is to eat 12 grapes, one for each stroke of midnight. We’ve combined this tasty tradition with a dash of science, but this way… we’ll be seeing fruity fireworks.
  • BUBBLY DANCE PARTY (Adventure Science Center)
Step onto our bubble wrap dance floor as you groove and pop your way right into the NOON Year.
  • STREAMER CELEBRATION (Adventure Science Center)
Grab your confetti sticks and get ready to count down in Space Chase. Trust us… the streamers will fly!

Live Demonstrations:

Eureka Theater (2nd Floor) at 9:45am, 10:15am, 10:45am & 11:15am

In this Science Live! show, we’ll be exploring some age-old American traditions use to celebrate the New Year. We’ll feature our own smashing ball drop, sample glowing, bubbly liquids, and investigate the curious chemical science behind fireworks.

Special Notes:

  • You'll receive a confetti stick prior to the Streamer Celebration at noon. Find our staff handing them out in Space Chase beginning at 11:30am.
  • We won't have an Early Explorers program on this day. Instead, we're opening an hour early for ALL our guests to enjoy the Happy NOON Year fun!
  • Get here early. Our Happy NOON Year event is well-loved in Nashville, but our building can only hold so many people before we reach maximum capacity.
  • Due to the large crowds, there will be no monitored coat check available on this day. We will have unmonitored racks available for use.
