FIRST ® is a robotics community that prepares young people for the future and is the world’s leading youth-serving nonprofit advancing STEM education. FIRST ® LEGO® League Challenge teams prepare all season to compete at regional tournaments\, where judges provide valuable feedback on their robot\, code\, and invention. The Middle TN Qualifier at Adventure Science Center is an opportunity for students to compete as their robots go head-to-head in a friendly competition focused on research\, problem-solving\, coding\, and engineering. Interested in registering your team for this event? All registration and payment processes are done through TNFirst. Make sure to register for the Middle TN Qualifier hosted at Adventure Science Center. Register your team here. Sample a liquid nitrogen marshmallow\, explore a chemical reaction between sugar\, heat\, and air (aka cotton candy)\, and see what happens when you place a candy bar in a vacuum chamber – all with a sweet or sour specialty cocktail in hand. \nPlus\, while you're here\, pick up some sweet tricks to help with holiday preparations. \nKick off December with this whimsical walk into the wonderful world of Willy Wonka and his gloriously fun candy factory. \n\n\n\n\nActivities Throughout the Night\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVacuum Chamber Candies - Find out what happens to some of your favorite candies as we run tests on them with a vacuum chamber.\nCotton Candy - Sample the fluffy treat we know and love and discover the science of heat and air that brings it to life.\nThe Candy Crafting Room - Get a head start on the holiday season and craft a handmade peppermint ornament.\nRubens' Tube S'mores - Watch fire dance across the tube as sounds waves pulse through\, changing the internal pressure and displacing the air. Plus\, we'll have complimentary solar viewing glasses available for guests with valid day-of General Admission tickets. Partial view of the eclipse is 10:38 am–1:36 pm. COST: INCLUDED IN GENERAL ADMISSIONSaturday\, October 14\, is the next annular solar eclipse. If you're in the path of the eclipse\, you’ll see an ‘annulus’ – meaning the Sun will look like a ring of light\, with the Moon blocking out just the center. Nashville misses this path\, so we won't catch the full annulus\, but it is still an amazing astronomical event you don't want to miss. This special day at the science center is a part of the 2023 Tennessee STEAM Festival. P.S. Our next Way Late Play Date is coming Friday\, August 25. \nWay Late Play Date: Weird Science is your chance to explore weird\, wacky\, and wonderful science and get answers to all your burning science questions. Guests will enjoy expert-guided experiments and collaborations and by the end of the night\, they will know some jaw-dropping scientific factoids. Plus\, unlike your 8th-grade science class\, there are no stupid questions here. Timed Activities:\nPop Goes the Laser - Sudekum Planetarium8:00\, 8:45\, 9:30 pm \n\nWhat's our most forbidden item in the Planetarium? Helium balloons! Imagine one of those things getting loose in our 63 ft diameter dome! But\, during this Way Late Play Date\, witness our one exception to this rule. We will take our revenge on balloons by popping them with laser beams from our state-of-the-art laser show system.
