A devilishly good time with tasty treats and science feats! Join us Friday\, December 1 for Wonka Late Play Date.  \nThis after-hours event will be packed full of reasons why we are nuts about science. Sample a liquid nitrogen marshmallow\, explore a chemical reaction between sugar\, heat\, and air (aka cotton candy)\, and see what happens when you place a candy bar in a vacuum chamber – all with a sweet or sour specialty cocktail in hand. \nPlus\, while you're here\, pick up some sweet tricks to help with holiday preparations. \nKick off December with this whimsical walk into the wonderful world of Willy Wonka and his gloriously fun candy factory. \n\n\n\n\nActivities Throughout the Night\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVacuum Chamber Candies - Find out what happens to some of your favorite candies as we run tests on them with a vacuum chamber.\nCotton Candy - Sample the fluffy treat we know and love and discover the science of heat and air that brings it to life.\nThe Candy Crafting Room - Get a head start on the holiday season and craft a handmade peppermint ornament.\nRubens' Tube S'mores - Watch fire dance across the tube as sounds waves pulse through\, changing the internal pressure and displacing the air. Roast a marshmallow over the Rubens’ Tube for a s’more experience like no other.\nLiquid Nitrogen Slushies - Sample a slushy made with liquid nitrogen! The rapid flash freezing of the soda leaves the drink frozen\, but without many ice crystals for a smooth\, frozen treat.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShows in the Sudekum Planetarium + Live Science Shows\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCandy Lights & Milky Ways - See a Wonka-inspired laser show followed by a tour of the Milky Way by our incredible Sudekum Planetarium staff.\nLive Science Show - Step into the chemistry lab and explore colorful\, combustible\, and catalytic candy. Learn about the chemical structure of sugar and why mammals love it so much\, then watch as our presenter demonstrates chemical reactions using candy.\nWonka Variety Show - Third Coast Comedy Club\, the masters of funny\, will take you on a Wonka-sized journey of laughter during their improv variety shows.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOther Partners\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMiddle TN Robotics Arts Society - Watch function and automation come to life as you perfect your own candy factory.\nGoo Goo Cluster - Nashville's very own original candy maker has sweet prize packs for three lucky (golden ticket) winners. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, December 2 | 7:30 am - 3:00 pmAdventure Science Center is partnering with FIRST ® to host a FIRST ® LEGO® League Challenge Event. FIRST ® is a robotics community that prepares young people for the future and is the world’s leading youth-serving nonprofit advancing STEM education. FIRST ® LEGO® League Challenge teams prepare all season to compete at regional tournaments\, where judges provide valuable feedback on their robot\, code\, and invention. The Middle TN Qualifier at Adventure Science Center is an opportunity for students to compete as their robots go head-to-head in a friendly competition focused on research\, problem-solving\, coding\, and engineering. Interested in registering your team for this event? All registration and payment processes are done through TNFirst.
