Make a lasting impact...
The Scientists on Site program at Adventure Science Center strives to connect guests with the research and innovation happening in our community by facilitating a dialogue with local experts through:
- Professional development that prepares experts for conversations about their work
- Mentorship program with dedicated high school students
- Hands-on activities created by the mentor-mentee team that can effectively communicate their current research, spark interest, and encourage discussion
- Public events featuring face-to-face interactions through time on the museum floor, working with camps and school groups, and/or special event days
- Broadening the impact and providing an opportunity to network with the Nashville community
The program takes place over the course of one year with a series of professional development workshops followed by regular volunteering until January 2021.
Scientists on Site is a one year commitment, including:
- Attending all professional development, activity development workshops and final showcase at Adventure Science Center.
- Mentoring a high school student from our Youth CR3W program to build their long-term commitment to science education and provide a greater understanding of your specific discipline's culture. Mentors should also coordinate at site visit or job shadow for the mentee.
- Volunteering at three (3) Super Science Saturday events (held the first Saturday of every month).
- Presenting the completed showcase activity once per month from June through December.
- Attending the 2021-2022 Scientists on Site cohort meet & greet to discuss the experience in the program with new cohort members.
- Successfully completing a background check.
Upon completion of Scientists on Site, you will be invited to a special event with the full cohort and members of Youth CR3W to celebrate your accomplishments.
