Volunteer

Give your time to the science center

We're seeking volunteers to help us bring science education to life. As a volunteer at Adventure Science Center, you'll have the chance to inspire young minds, engage with visitors, and help facilitate exhibits and programming around the building. Whether you're an educator, a retiree, or a science enthusiast, we have a role for you.

To become a volunteer, visit our volunteer portal to register. Once you've registered, you can volunteer for open beginner-level opportunities. Sign up to attend a volunteer orientation session to qualify for a wider variety of volunteer opportunities.

As a thank you, volunteers receive:

  • 10% discount in the science center gift shop (must show volunteer badge)
  • Participation in the Volunteer Recognition Program
  • Exclusive invitations to volunteer events & exhibit previews
  • Free individual or family membership after 100 hours

Volunteer Opportunities

General Volunteers

Anyone interested in volunteering can sign up for an account and begin browsing the different volunteer opportunities we offer.

When you first sign up for an account, you will only have access to the beginner-level opportunities. This means that you will not be able to see the more advanced opportunities we offer.

If you are interested in unlocking the advanced opportunities, you will first have to attend one of our Volunteer Orientations. In these orientations, we go over the guidelines, expectations, and roles of a volunteer to better prepare you for our program. Completing this orientation will grant you access to sign up for new and exciting opportunities!

Group Volunteering

Adventure Science Center has opportunities for companies, organizations or college groups to volunteer and assist with fun and rewarding service projects. Projects vary based on Adventure Science Center needs, but may include special events, behind-the-scenes prep, hands-on activity facilitation, and other projects.

Interested in organizing a group volunteering project?  E-mail Lindsey Calhoun lcalhoun@adventuresci.org to get started.

Tinkering Garage: Tinkering Garage is Adventure Science Center’s ultimate DIY-Workshop. Guests are giving tools and materials to build anything they can imagine. In this hands-on opportunity, volunteers assist the staff in overseeing the space, restock the materials, and help guests build their creation.

Exhibit Interpreter: Exhibit interpreters “translate” the topics of the exhibits into a language that helps visitors understand, value, and appreciate them. They also may lead activities related to their assigned exhibit.

i2 Makerspace Assistant: Volunteers the the i2 Makerspace help staff facilitate the space by greeting guests, explaining crafts and activities, cleaning the space, and prepping future activities.

Activity Cart Facilitator: Activity Cart Facilitators demonstrate fun and exciting science activities or experiments for our guests. We have a collection of over fifty activities for volunteers to help lead.

21+ Events: We host several 21+ events throughout the year. These events are often themed and contain many fun and exciting activities for adult guests to enjoy. Volunteers are responsible for facilitating the activities, running the check-in, assisting the planetarium staff, and other general needs.

Open Opportunities: Are you looking for a place to volunteer, but you're not sure if you can commit to joining our general volunteer program? We offer select volunteer opportunities to anyone over the age of 14. Most open opportunity shifts are available at public events throughout the year.
