Wobble Bot

By Science Educators

Build your own wobble bot construction

We’ve all wanted our very own robot and now you can learn to make your own! All you need is a few supplies to create a wibbly wobble bot. Use the photo to help with your design and then evaluate and determine what method works best for you. Be creative! Make your wobble bot your own with fun designs, add markers to make it draw cool designs, or even get silly with googly eyes. Your only limit is your imagination! Have fun with this DIY activity at home!

Materials:

  • Motor
  • Battery Pack
  • Material for Robot Body (Plastic cup, cardboard, etc.)

You May Also Need:

  • Scissors
  • Electrical Tape
  • Hot Glue Gun (Get help from an adult!)

Activity:

Choose your robot body – this can be a recycled plastic cup, a reused bit of cardboard, or anything else relatively light you can find in your home. Once you are happy with your design, experiment with hooking the motor up to your battery pack. How does that work? What happens when you attach the motor and battery pack to your robot? You can even add markers to the bottom of your bot to create wibbly wobbly designs with your new creation (like the one pictured)!

Customize your wobble bot and try to use it in different ways. Determine what materials work for different tasks. Is a plastic cup the best for a coloring wobble bot? Can you make a cleaning bot with a household scrub brush? Design. Redesign. Create!

Further Exploration:

  • What makes your motor work? Why do you need a battery pack?
  • What is the best material for your wobble bot? Why?
