Moving Our Nissan LEAF Lever Car

Few exhibits at the science center are more iconic than our lever car. So, earlier this year, we decided to move it front and center.

By moving this exhibit between the Adventure Tower stairs, it is the first thing visitors see as they walk through the front doors. Alongside the move, we created new bilingual signage that explores the physics of levers.

Moving a car is not always a difficult task, but ours was missing its engine! This key detail made the move more complicated than hopping in the Nissan LEAF for a quick spin around the building.

To help with the process, We brought in our friends at Hamilton Machine Co. The team first jacked up the car to disconnect it from the lever. With the car out of the way, they used a forklift to pick up the massive steel lever and slowly maneuver it between the stairs. Then, all we had left to do was put everything back together, bolt it down, and add a new coat of paint.

Finally, our marketing team designed and printed brand-new signage to accompany the exhibit.

This relocation was made possible thanks to a generous grant from Nissan and the Nissan Neighbors charitable giving program. We are continually grateful to our community partners for making STEM learning interactive, fun, and engaging for people of all ages.
