February Theme: Engineering Month

By Adventure Science Center

Adventure Science Center is spotlighting the creativity and problem-solving power of engineering this February with Engineering Month. Throughout the month, visitors can explore how engineers design, build, test, and improve the technologies that shape everyday life.

Floor activities throughout the Science Center will include:

  • DIY Catapults – focusing on Mechanical Engineering
  • Design, Build, and Test a Satellite Prototype – highlighting Aerospace Engineering
  • Sphero Robots – exploring Computer Engineering
  • Snap Circuits – introducing Electrical Engineering
  • Microscope Explorations – examining materials through a Materials Engineering lens

In addition to the month-long theme, Adventure Science Center will host a series of special events and programs:

  • TwisterSaturday, February 7
Tennessee Women in Science, Tech, Engineering, and Research. Explore your future in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) with dozens of peers who love science just as much as you do! Meet inspiring scientists, engineers, and researchers who are putting their skills to work in education, industry, and the community. Sponsored by: Jackson ®, LP Building Solutions, Schneider Electric, BNA, Vanderbilt University.
  • Laser ELO – Sudekum Planetarium – Saturday, February 7
Experience the music of Electric Light Orchestra paired with vibrant laser visuals in the planetarium.
  • Laser Foo Fighters – Sudekum Planetarium – Saturday, February 21
A high-energy laser show set to the music of Foo Fighters, combining rock anthems with immersive light effects.
  • Engineered for Egg-cellence – Saturday, February 21
Guests are challenged to engineer a container that protects a 3D-printed egg from breaking when dropped. Using only the provided materials, participants must design a structure that cushions the egg from impact without holding it in place. An added challenge encourages engineers to use the fewest materials possible, with the lightest successful designs earning a spot on the leaderboard.
  • Science of BeerSaturday, February 27
A 21+ evening exploring the chemistry and physics behind brewing, fermentation, and flavor. Guests will enjoy engaging science demonstrations alongside tastings from local and regional breweries. Sponsored by: Lipman, Minuteman Press, Sherrard Roe Voight & Harbison.
